Ogden Peak Communications Achieves Broadcast News Coverage for the First Time in its History

Ogden Peak Communications’ promotional efforts for a Weber State University Center for Community Engaged Learning event resulted in broadcast news coverage for the first time in firm history.

Ogden Peak pitched legacy media, and worked extensively on a social media campaign to raise awareness of the event. Promotional efforts resulted in pre-event articles in the Standard Examiner and the Signpost, and in a news story by Glen Beeby, from ABC 4 Utah, airing on the 10 p.m. news.

The Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) held the WSU Live Student Fact Check event in conjunction with the Utah 1st Congressional District debate on Oct. 17, 2018. CCEL organized a coalition of students studying investigative journalism, policy debate, broadcasting and political science courses to fact-check candidates Rob Bishop, Lee Castillo and Eric Eliason.

The event was organized into two parts: an on-campus event where the students gathered to conduct fact-checking, and an off-campus, community watch party of the debate where fact-checking from the on-campus event was shared via Facebook Live. Studio 76, WSU’s student broadcasting team, streamed the Utah Debate Commission broadcast of the debate over Facebook Live, sharing fact-checking in the comments of the video.
